We managed to get our hands on the last parcel of this 2007 vintage, which is now fully mature and drinking superbly. Despite this, the wine will benefit from spending up to an hour in a decanter to allow it to fully express its essence. As a mature wine, you can expect the full spectrum of flavours, from these vibrant cherry fruits and meaty characters so typical of Tuscany, the concentrated power of Montepulciano and the breadth of flavours coming from a mature wine: leather, spices, cured meats…
We recommend enjoying this wine with a great meal, full of flavour such as a roast or a slow-cooked stew.
Podere Le Berne is a family farm that was created in the 1960s in the south of Tuscany, nestled in the hills of Montepulciano. They grow wine grapes and olives for artisan olive oil as is De Rigueur in this part of the world. Their vineyards sits at 350m above sea level which balances out the hot, semi-continental summers. The Sangiovese grapes are harvested late in the season in October, sometimes into November.
The Vino Nobile Riserva is the highest level of the appellation in the area and these wines are not made every year, only in the best vintages. The best grapes from the best plots are chosen and are aged longer than the other wines in large 25,000L barrels as well as “smaller” 250L French barrels. All in all the wine spends close to 3 years in barrel and another year in the bottle before release.
